The Michigan Play Therapy Training Academy offers workshops on a variety of play therapy topics.  These 2022 workshops are ALL ONLINE AND LIVE.  Sign up for one workshop ... or a whole series. Register for what works best for YOU. The Phase Based Curriculum is only created to help you on your process for becoming an RPT ... but you can take the classes in ANY order!

Due to COVID-19 health concerns, these one-time, online events have been approved by APT for a total of 35 hrs CONTACT CE Hours (APT approved provider 15-407).

The training will follow APT's guidelines for current training conditions ... which means the workshop will be live and interactive, there will be no more than 40 participants, and each workshop will include a post-test for attendees that must be taken and passed to earn the contact hours within 2 weeks of the training.

 

 All trainings are taught by Laura Hutchison, PsyD, LP, RPT/S 

 

all workshops are ONLINE, LIVE, and in Eastern Standard Time

MiPTTA RPT Curriculum

 

Before you begin, make sure you:

  1. Have a degree in a mental health field

  2. Have completed graduate coursework in:

  • Child development theories

  • Principles of Psychotherapy

  • Child & Adolescent Psychopathology

  • Ethics

 

Additionally, I strongly suggest you:

  1. Secure a RPT/S to supervise you

  2. Join APT

  3. Have a job where you have access to obtain your clinical experience doing play therapy

 

To complete phase one of becoming a Registered Play Therapist (RPT), you will need to:

  • Conduct 50-72 hours of play therapy

  • Obtain 5-10 hours of supervision with a RPT/S

  • Have 1 session viewed/observed by supervisor

  • Complete 35-55 hours of instruction

    • Play Therapy History (5 hours to be completed in any phase)

    • Play Therapy Seminal or Historically Significant Theories (20-30 hours)

    • Play Therapy Skills and Methods (10-20 hours)

    • Play Therapy Special Topics (0-5 hours)

 

To complete phase two of becoming a Registered Play Therapist (RPT), you will need to:

  • Conduct 100-150 hours of play therapy

  • Obtain 10-15 hours of supervision with a RPT/S

  • Have 2 sessions viewed/observed by supervisor

  • Complete 55-70 hours of instruction

    • Play Therapy History (5 hours to be completed in any phase)

    • Play Therapy Seminal or Historically Significant Theories (25-30 hours)

    • Play Therapy Skills and Methods (25-30 hours)

    • Play Therapy Special Topics (5-10 hours)

 

To complete phase three of becoming a Registered Play Therapist (RPT), you will need to:

  • Conduct 100-175 hours of play therapy

  • Obtain 10-20 hours of supervision with a RPT/S

  • Have 2 sessions viewed/observed by supervisor

  • Complete 55-70 hours of instruction

    • Play Therapy History (5 hours to be completed in any phase)

    • Play Therapy Seminal or Historically Significant Theories (10-15 hours)

    • Play Therapy Skills and Methods (15-20 hours)

    • Play Therapy Special Topics (20-25hours)

Continuing Education for Play Therapy

The Michigan Play Therapy Training Academy is  approved by the Association for Play Therapy to sponsor continuing education specific to play therapy and  maintains responsibility for the program.  APT Approved Provider 15-407.
